Tour organiser Hugh Roberts, as well as cyclists Mark Cavendish, Roger Hammond and Geraint Thomas all back the decision to postpone the second stage to Blackpool due to severe weather.

Many parts of Britain have been hit by blustery conditions and organisers, based on guidance from the police and Highways Agency, have had to scrap the stage from Kendal to Blackpool altogether.

Riders were participating in an exhibition lap around the Cumbrian town of Kendal before reconvening Tuesday for the third stage in Stoke-on-Trent.

Conditions are forecast to improve
