The Tour of Chongming Island, chinese stage race ranked 2.1, starts well for the girls of the team Selle Italia-Ghezzi: in the first stage, a criterium with a huge following by the public and the media, there was a good team performance which led Lorena Foresi to second place (her best career result among the élite) behind Chloe Hosking and Marina Romoli to sixth place. Thanks to these placements, and those of other girls, the Selle Italia-Ghezzi is now on the top of the team ranking, a very significant primacy considering the low average age of the six girls in the race.
«Lorena was great and she is very happy - tells Walter Ricci Petitoni from China - but there's a little regret because in the final kilometres we made a couple of small mistakes adn without them we could certainly point to the full result. Tomorrow we will try again, maybe with Agne Bagdonaviciute that today tested herself in an intermediate sprint, and in some stage we might try to invent something to win the general classification, because that's one of our goal».
Tomorrow's second stage will be long 79.2 kms and will be almost completely flat with two intermediate sprints with time bonus that, added to the traditional bonus at finish, could cause some changes in the general classification.
