The great D.D.R champion Klaus Ampler had two fantastic years in 1962 and 1963, for he won the 1962 & 1963 national road race championship, the 1962 & 1963 D.D.R Rundfahrt, the 1963 Course de la Paix and was elected 1963 D.D.R Sportman of the year.
